How to clean your steel pans

by Panman
(NY)

What household items can you use to clean the pan?
---------------------------------------------------------------

Several household items can be used to clean and polish steel pans.

Window cleaner (e.g. windex) and paper towels can be used to remove grease and grime from both chrome plated and painted steel pans.

If you polish your pans regularly you will eventually develop a build-up of polish on your pans. Window cleaner is very effective in removing this as well.

After the pan has been cleaned a polish can be applied to give it a nice sheen and help prevent rusting.

For chrome-plated pans you can use a thin layer of chrome polish. Some household brass and silver polishes can also be used on chrome finishes. Some car polishes are also suitable for chrome finishes and are quite effective. Just check the product labels to be sure.

For painted or powder coated pans you can use a thin layer of colorless shoe polish or automobile polish. The old fashioned thick, waxy floor polish can also be used (if you can find it!)
